In Australia, racist and bootlicking queers run the show.

RISE queer eX-detainees have been calling Queer festival organisers to remove police from queer parades including Mardi Gras and Midsumma festivals. Have they listened to us? No! They ignored us and stayed silent, aligning themselves with the government including the military, police, refugee detention industry profiteers and prison industry profiteers.

Now what is the outcome of police queerphobia? It has taken such a toll on us and our resources have been burnt all this time, for us to call for a boycott of police in Mardi Gras and Midsumma. There has been no proper actions taken by these organisers to ensure queer festivals are safe for the most oppressed people.

But when white queers and white celebrities’ lives are endangered by police, the same organisers from Mardi Gras are now hurriedly putting safety measures in place including asking the cops to not participate in their parade, requesting police to not march with guns or in uniform etc.

These 2 white queer cisgender gay men are most likely from a similar social class to the organisers of these festivals. By focusing on white lives, and disregarding refugee eX-detainees’ concerns, Mardi Gras proves itself to be inherently racist in their practices and so do entire queer movements in so-called Australia.

This is a typical example of white supremacist colonialism within the queer community. We eX-detainees question, would these white queers and organisers of the Mardi Gras ever bother to remove military, navy, refugee detention industry profiteers, prison industry profiteers and  politicians from the parade? NO THEY WON’T.

Centering white lives matter within the queer community is not new and “Australia” is the land for white queer supremacy as well as global level pinkwashing.

We eX-detainees call for the resignation of ALL current Board of Directors and the Executive staff members of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras for failing to carry out community safety at their events, especially putting eX-detainee queer people and queer people of colour at risk.

In 2023, RISE eX-detainees released a statement called, Queer eX-detainees urge artists, presenters, and other participants to boycott the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival, which also hosts WorldPride 2023, in so-called Sydney, Australia.
